In Sussex Yacht Club’s latest race series David Skinner’s Moonlight Saunter notched up a convincing win as a strong breeze whipped up white crested waves on a day absolutely ideal for yacht racing.
The race fleet left the safety of the harbour lock at 11 am and straight into strong winds which saw most yachts reefing down their mainsails and setting smaller headsails.
Moonlight Saunter, a Feeling 411, confidently powered off the start line into the rising sea with skipper David Skinner expertly driving the yacht down the coast to the turning mark off Worthing’s seafront. What followed was a fabulous downwind rollercoaster ride which can only be described as awesome!
After the the downwind mark was rounded the crew faced a tough upwind beat. Muscles ached as winches were ground around and around, then around again with the skipper calling for one last big effort for the final leg and a well deserved victory.
