The Round The Island 2018 winner is Solent based husband and wife team sailing a 1972 Contessa 26 with a handicap of  0.771.  High Potential finished at 18:31.33 with an elapsed time of 11:01.33  hours and a corrected time of 8:30.03

Line honours go to the sole foiling trimaran Concise Fling finally crossing the Cowes finishing line at 3.14 pm, an elapsed time of 8 hours, 34 minutes and 9 seconds against a record of 2:22:23 set last year by Ned Collier Wakefield who was helming again today.

Overall winner of the Gold Roman Bowl, announced at 8.30 pm Saturday, was Lymington based Ross Applebey’s High Potential sailed with his wife Sarah, and friends in the IRC Division 3D.

A total of 1204 yachts have entered according to race organisers Island Sailing Club for the Round The Island Race 2018

The Cowes, Isle of Wight based club has organises this historic event each year and with light airs forecast this year is unlikely to shatter any records.

In 2013 Mike Slade  set the monohull record, for the westwards 50.1 nautical mile, circumnavigation of 3 hours, 43 minutes and 50 seconds.

The boats were started, in 11 classes from 6.30 am, by Dame Ellen MacArthur firing the gun from the Royal Yacht Squadron platform
