Sailing yacht off Sussex coast

Saturday May 30 saw the start of Sussex Yacht Club’s Summer Pursuit series. Yachts sailed from Shoreham Harbour out around a course out on the open sea before returning together.

I sailed onboard Moonlight Saunter, David Skinner’s Feeling 411 and had a wonderful trip of adventure, thrills, sail learning, and good camaraderie.

The purpose of this race was to get all the yachts finishing together. Since they are all different sizes and the crews are of different levels of ability a handicap system is used whereby the competitors are allocated a individual time to start.

This reduces the risk of collision at the the beginning but as the race progresses results in the yachts meeting up and the race marks culminating in a thrilling finish.

Our crew enjoyed the fresh air and pleasure of being out on the water whilst at the same time concentrating on the race.
